They’re the best choice if the election is tomorrow. That’s all I’ll give them at this point.

There are good Dems who are legitimately progressive, good people who are Dems and mean well, and a lot of shitheads.

As long as our current voting system remains, our duty is to reinforce the progressive wing of the Dems, and push back against the Christofascists of the GOP. Of course, that’s one of many fucking reasons we need ranked choice and like systems to replace single-member district FPTP.

The dems aren’t progressive. They’re the status quo party.

The reps want to drag us back to 1830.

A couple members of the dem party believe in those things. Think AOC and Bernie (who is actually an independent). The rest are captured by billionaires and do their bidding.

Show me the party saying those things are priorities as well as them accomplishing literally any of those things and i’ll consider changing my mind but a couple decades of them “fighting” and not accomplishing anything has led me to believe that they are just controlled opposition.

Biden had a blue congress for the first 2 years. Nothing of note done.

Obama had a blue congress for his first 2 years. Crowning achievement: romneycare lite

But please keep telling me how they are making your life better. I’ll vote for real progressives not liars who say they are for the people but judging by their actions they aren’t.

Yeah, that the democratic party has been captured by billionaires and don’t actually work for the people so they don’t get elected. Not really that hard to figure out.

Just because they’re the only non fascist party in a two party system doesn’t make them progressive no matter how hard you want them to be.

Unfortunately, there’s a very deeply embedded tribalism in American politics that causes (in part) people to see ‘their team’ as aligning with their view of what it should be, even if reality is starkly different.

Trump is the end point of this delusion, wherein all of his supporters have intrinsically different ideas of what he’s doing and what he’s done, but “TEAM TEAM TEAM” is pushed so hard that they never have a moment of fucking introspection.

I’m a little softer on people who have that same delusion with the Dems, in part because I myself am not immune to the “Softer view of The Less Bad Team™”, but in part because there are legitimately progressive people in the party which fit that view of the party as the road to progress. The issue is that Dem progressives in REALITY are nowhere near a majority, or a plurality, and even for their proportion in the party, played an undersized role due to the fucking dinosaurs that control the ‘big’ positions of the party. There’s a lot of fucked ‘seniority’ shit in Congress and the DNC that, even if we were to assume total innocence on the part of the ‘moderates’ and neolibs (doubt), fuck us there.

The GOP massacred the last of the liberal Republicans in the 1980s and the last of the moderates in the 2010s, which makes anyone maintaining progressive delusions about the GOP utterly detached from reality, not just tunnel-visioned or bad at keeping up with the nuances of political news.

Fuck no, at this point, anyone running as a Republican is, at minimum, signifying that they’re okay with running under the label of a fascist party.

I just mean that I’m not sitting here ready to defend people with the label of Dem because “BLUE TEAM GOOD”. I’m more than ready to say fuck whoever needs fucked - and while there is a sliding scale of importance, a not-insignificant number of Dems are in the “needs to go fuck themselves” category.

Furthermore, if there’s ever a third party that takes itself seriously - or any independent candidate with an actual shot at victory in my local elections - I’m not afraid to break ranks with the Dems.

        THIS!!! SO MUCH THIS!!!

We are at point where both parties and their bases are taking the stance of “us or them”.

It totally breaks the iron grip they have if people say “Neither. You both suck!”

Judge people individually. Judge politicians individually. Don’t just judge based on party affiliation.

In theory, it’s possible a republican COULD be a good person. If a good person republican were somehow able to shed 100% of the core values that they’re based on today, I would vote for that person.

In contrast, I KNOW there’s shitty democrats. I see a lot of them. It’s ok to give a shitty democrat the middle finger.

The problem with America, the core fundamental problem, is that every politician is only looking out for themselves.

They use party members to advance their own agendas because strength in numbers. It’s no different than one dirty cop covering for the other dirty cop. But if the second dirty cop goes down, the first dirty cop will suddenly distance themselves from the situation.

That’s the mentality driving Americsn politics. Republicans use fascism to strengthen their ranks. If fascism didn’t work, they’d try something else. And Democrats use the idea of appealing as the softer choice who cares about citizens. They don’t.

We have a choice between fascists who are openly fascist. Literally doing nazi salutes on tv, this year.

        Or

Secret fascists who claim to be for the people, but vote quite differently. They still take bribes. They’re bought and paid for schills who vote for repubublican agendas, because it helps them individually.

Meanwhile we’re all out here working 2-3 jobs, struggling to survive while the system top to bottom is working against us.

Well duh, it’s for history. To remind democrats of their roots, totally. That’s why they’re taking down statues. So we would forget who Robert e Lee was
