The UK’s “extreme and secretive” citizenship-stripping powers are putting millions of British Muslims at risk of being deprived of their nationality, a new report has warned.

Research published by the Runnymede Trust and Reprieve on Thursday found that nine million people in the UK – approximately 13 per cent of the population – could be legally stripped of their citizenship at the home secretary’s discretion.

Both organisations warn that the “deprivation regime” now represents a systematic threat to Muslim communities, echoing the state’s discrimination against British nationals with familial links to the Caribbean in the Windrush scandal.

“The previous government stripped British trafficking victims of citizenship for political gain, and the current government has just expanded these extreme and secretive powers,” Reprieve’s Maya Foa told Middle East Eye.

Oh dear. We could go the same way as USA.

Labour are handing these powers to Reform. They need to fix this ASAP.

They need to investigate Reform, and if Reform are acting as agents of foreign influence, they should shut them down.

The same is true of Yaxley-Lennon’s mob.

      Unfortunately parliament is sovereign.

No parliament ca. Prevent a future parliament from doing anything. All fixing this would do. Is required reform to make one ,pre step.

Well power sits with Home Secretary, so rolling changes back means they’d have to find majority to roll it out, which could make things harder. However, it might get rolled back or blocked in House of Lords. Discretionary power in ministers hands is bad and really open to abuse.

HOL can now only delay commons law if commons has a majority.

There power has been reduced hugely.

But yes. Stopping the right from ever having a majority is the only way we will ever control parliament. But the current parlimentry only power to achieve that. Is being liked by voters.

They seem to have rejected that option for supporting the right wing funders.
