The year is over, and I am currently enjoying some paid time off.
Manga
I am still reading GTO and Shibuya Near Family, which are both good.
I have discovered Wasteful Days of High School Girls has someone working on translations of new chapters these days, so that’s neat. It’s definitely one of the most underrated slice of life comedies I have encountered.
Are You A Landmine, Chihara-San? is one of those manga that keeps showing up in r/manga, so I assume it’s not too interesting. However, I have recently seen an interesting video on the Jirai-Kei subculture, so I’m willing to check it out. Maybe it’s good, but I am not that many chapters in.
Anime
I have finished Eureka Seven. It is at its core a romance show, and does very few things wrong. Solid overall, but not excelling in anything. I’d definitely say go check it out, even if it perhaps a bit overrated. B+
I have also finished Season 1 of Black Lagoon (and the gag manga DVD-Bonus OVA, as seen in the thumbnail), and it is very good. Its plot structure is basically the same as those late 80s OVAs that are divided into a bunch of movies. It is one of the most western-culture-influenced anime I have ever seen, and an unusually international in scope too. After the ol’ reliable first major arc that feels like a Lupin III movie (I love those), we surprisingly get a lot of melancholia about the fall of the Soviet Union and the End of History. The author’s a liberal to my knowledge, and such Fukuyama style sentiment of “this is the world we live in. It sucks, but it we can’t do anything about it” is interesting to witness. I am definitely interested to see what Season 2 can bring. Oh, and the music is good. A+
I’ve been watching the original Space Battleship Yamato, after having seen the remake a few years ago and I have been hooked once again. I might even enjoy it more than the remake. Undoubtedly thanks to the very retro charm it has, and the iconic OP and ED. A+
Tokimeki Tonight is a 1982 romcom. Add supernatural themes drawing inspiration from horror tropes, contemporary pop culture (that’s not other anime), fantastic stylistic choices and two chaotic evil main characters / rivals? It’s very fun. Supposedly, it was an inspiration for Sailor Moon. A
Another fun one is Cardcaptor Sakura. Quality episodic magical girl shenanigans. I’m still too early into the show to judge it.
Monogatari: Second Season is good. SHAFT at its best, and even the highly questionable nonsense from seasons past has been toned down. And when Araragi isn’t on screen, it’s even better. B+
Why does Ranma ½ (the original) have so much Happosai?
Donghua
I have started The Legend of Princess Chang-Ge yesterday. A historical drama set in a period of turmoil in the Tang dynasty. Episode 1 was good, and I am interested to see if the rest also is. The 3D animation looks very good.
new cour new post!!
Journal With Witch – a slow slice of life about grief with a niece and and aunt. Nice and relaxing.
Tamon’s B Side – highschool girl (16) meets an idol (18) through her job as a housekeeper and he’s actually a pathetic mess and she bullies him into being a better performer. interesting but not completely holding my attention.
Fate / Strange Fake – I skipped this about 5 minutes in, but maybe I will continue it later. Seems like some sorta detective or mystery story. edit I watched it and my assessment wasnt wrong lol. it definitely feels like the story doesn’t really matter and it’s actually just a showcase for animation. I didn’t realize that this is the second episode to come out after a very long break. Overall, it’s not really very interesting to me, but it’s not bad if you like that sort of thing. (im admittedly more into the exploration of emotions, relationship dynamics, lifestyles, etc.)
Shiboyugi : Playing death games to put food on the table – Edgy, as per the title. Proceed with caution. I’m not familar with the “death games” series but this one has six girls dressed as maids and their goal is to beat the deadly escape room with traps. It’s like, what if we took slice of life and turned it into saw? There is no blood but they turn into stuffing when harmed.
Roll Over And Die – Edgy!! Yuri. A revenge story. We shall see how it goes I guess! I would proceed with caution if you decide to watch this, as I dont know what is in store for the heroines exactly. People in this world (mostly men) have bad intentions.
Isekai Office Worker – dude is isekai’d because he tried to help a woman and got sucked into the teleportation spell but he’s self admittedly a worker drone so he convinces the kingdom to let him work as an accountant. Also he is gay.
Champignon Witch – a cute “black witch” sprouts poisonous mushrooms and lives an isolated life, is disliked and misjudged by society despite wanting to help them, while “white witches” are the ones actively persecuting innocent witches and wizards. Cute but hints at evilness lurking beneath the surface (like dunmeshi)
The Holy Grail Of Eris – Edgy. Proceed with caution. A shy girl asks for help when she is confronted by people trying to ruin her life, and the one to answer the call is the spirit of a woman seeking revenge against those who wronged her. Victorian setting villainess. I like a good villainess :3
also casually watching Space Dandy which reminds me of futurama 🤔
also finished / up to date on Gachiakuta manga,
10/10 no complaints.almost forgot about Tis Time For Torture, Princess! S2 an imperial princess is captured by the hell army and subject to unimaginable horrors, such as a normal wholesome life not provided to her by the imperial kingdom 😉 Its a comedy so it doesnt take itself very seriously. its mainly fluff with an interesting perspective on “good vs evil”
(I have only read Anime/Manga for now!!)
I recently finished Chainsaw Man manga and anime nd Attack on Titan anime and planning on watching JJK anime.
My opinion? Uhh great! I kinda lost like my thoughts on them, but I like Chainsaw Man’s mix of like, humor with real topics. Attack on Titan is depression incarnate and it’s fine really, it’s not something I’ll be invested in as much as with Chainsaw Man. Talking about AoT’s plotline… uhh, so ultranationalism bad, war never changes, and genocide bad. I think that’s the best remembered ideas I got from it. I’m currently writing a more detailed review, but won’t be finished due to exams so… yeah!
Chainsaw Man… I like Asa/Yoru dynamic. And I liked rewatching to see anime/manga differences, I also like seeing a broader world in the anime. Top ship is Asa/Denji, of course. I can’t say much on my detailed analysis, cause I also want to write that, in part connecting it to my Asa/Yoru fanfic about being in Public Safety and how’d that change stuff, and how I handled the plot and themes.
JJK. Heard is good stuff. Not much spoliers except from the most popular memes. We’ll see.
Been busy with the holidays, so I haven’t been doing much anime or manga.
Manga
I picked up vol 1 of Chainsaw Man at the library today lol. Haven’t started it
Anime
Initial D: First Stage (11/26): I’ve been on a cars kick recently, so this has been fun.
Yu Yu Hakusho (5/112): Watched and enjoyed random parts of this back when it was on TV in the US. Still getting into the plot, but it’s fun. I’m not a huge battle shonen fan, so I’ll be nibbling on this one for a while.
Visions of Eascaflowne (26/26): This show was pretty great. I’m 3/3 for liking fantasy mecha shows (this, Aura Battler Dunbine, Magic Knight Rayearth).
Gundam Build Fighters (25/25): Decent enough toy ad. There were lots of
moments with background characters to keep me perpetually entertained.Been meaning to watch Star Wars Visions part 3 and the Eascaflowne film, but haven’t gotten to them yet.
@Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net Do you plan on watching the Eureka Seven movie (the old one, not the rebuild style recent ones)? It’s an odd one - reusing character designs and archetypes to tell a separate story.
Initial D first stage is the best one. Technically the first anime I’ve watched to completion. But it took me six more years to watch a second one.
I wasn’t aware of the E7 movie. The answer is… maybe, if I feel like it. I also have Gundam SEED Freedom to watch… eventually.
I was keeping up with all of the Gundam releases since like 2019/2020, but still haven’t gotten to SEED Freedom. I’m not sure I can handle the trash lol
Tried watching season 1 of Demon Slayer but I had to stop at episode 13. It’s so fucking inane and boring. Trying to avoid forcing myself to watch shit I hate for some external reason.
Finished watching Strawberry Marshmellow, which was good. At least the anime washes off most of the lolicon stuff. It still has that residue, but it’s not bad in the show. I liked how it used audio in the comedy better than most shows.
Rewatched Kanon (2002), which was okay. It’s surprisingly how competent it is for 12 episodes and the digital colouring doesn’t even look that bad. The big camera movements during the OP and the animation for them is pretty impressive. Still worse than the VN and the Kyoto Animation adaptation, but it’s not awful.
Gunna’ watch Diebuster and Sol Bianca (1999) soon.
I have only watched the 2002 version of Kanon lol. I liked it though.
Mostly been watching anime documentaries/behind the scenes and stuff with commentaries.
I’ve been watching The Eminence of the Shadow, it’s been surprisingly holding my attention, mostly because I’m confused, I feel like I missed an episode.
i started reading the Gachiakuta manga, does not disappoint.
im past the queen beryl / dark kingdom arc in sailor moon crystal, im liking the fast pacing and mamo not being a college student. Also :
sailor moon crystal episode 13 or 14 spoilers (idr which one)

rini pointing a (fake) gun at usagi. always catches me off guard lol. Also reminds me of gachiakuta
Finally got started with Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Only watched one episode as a kid and thought the giant robot was cool but never watched it (I played a flash game I really loved.)
But so far I’m enjoying it.
(I played a flash game I really loved.)
I feel like I half remember this. There was some kind of chess/checkers thing IDK
It has some major production issues and loses the plot halfway through. Still worth finishing since Endless Waltz is great.
Too tired recovering from surgery, but I have been leisurely re-reading Njhei’s Blame! again, just got through the electrofisher arc, and I cannot stop myself from falling in love with this series all over again. Or maybe that’s just the percocets talking.
Iirc the movie version used gross cg like the knights of sidonia but it was still cool looking
It was solid, but on some levels I just think Blame! may simply be unadaptable.
Manga
- Caught up with Kingdom. It’s alright, pretty repetitive after a point, as one would expect.
- Since the special was announced and it looks like they’re skipping straight to the end, I started reading Kaguya-sama Love Is War. It’s a banger, though so far there is very little different from the anime.
- On a similar note, I also started the spin-off We Want To Talk About Kaguya-sama. It’s okay, a silly 4-koma that follows the media club side characters. Nothing special.
- Chainsaw Man has been going great lately, looking forward to the end of part 2 (hopefully) sometime in the next few months.
- And the big list of things I’m still keeping up to date with is: Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (Bad), Bocchi The Rock (Good but the anime is better), One-Punch Man (Sad given the state of the anime), Kagurabachi (Decent, and at least it’s moving the plot forward pretty quick), The Elden Ring Manga (Surprisingly good), Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun (Might not be any more TL’d chapters for a while apparently, which sucks), Yotsuba (Speaking of no new chapters…
), Rooster Fighter (Dumb fun), One Piece (the current flashback arc seems to be about done with things of interest, so hopefully it ends soon so we can get back to the current arc and then finish it to move onto something more interesting than Elbaf itself).
Anime
- S3 of Spy x Family is another solid season if you liked the prior ones. I think the Red Circus people are supposed to be a reference to the Red Army Faction? Very odd to have their arc end with them surrendering, since while it’s supposed to represent the main guy doing the moral thing, it actually just means that he and his friends will be tortured to death (as the SS guys confirmed happened to their comrades already in prison). It is very clear imo that the author wanted to have something set in a Cold War-era Berlin, but was also apparently not interested in doing the research to understand the conditions that led to Berlin existing as it did. The politics of the show remain deeply confused. Marx is apparently on the currency of both countries? The East Germany stand-in is fascist and has the RAF, while the West Germany stand-in is liberal capitalists? Unrelated, but I also feel things like Loid’s backstory are held back from their true potential by the general tone of the show being so lighthearted.
- S2 of Log Horizon is infuriating. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE SOLUTION TO THE RAID WAS TO JUST RUN PAST THE BOSSES INSTEAD OF FIGHTING THEM. WHAT DO YOU MEAN EVERYONE IN THE RAIDING GUILD WANTS TO GIVE UP AFTER LOSING ONCE. WHAT DO YOU MEAN NOBODY CAN EXPLAIN “ORAL ARTS” BUT IT’S JUST USING EXISTING SKILLS IN CREATIVE WAYS. Also, literally every character loves the MC, and it is annoying to have even his former enemies glaze him constantly.
watanare was fun! definitely a mikami teren work tho, and they love their dub and noncon

Cardcaptor Sakura
Can I get a HELL yeah
'Tsee, what’s the record say?
Animation and comics alone
There was a lot of Maison Ikkoku and Tokyo Mew Mew, some standout episodes of those I saw in December are the one where everybody fell into the well (Maison ep 29) and Mew Pudding missing her mom (TMM ep 20).
I finally finished Futari wa PreCure just before New Year’s. I was kinda surprised that the last episode had a next episode preview for the beginning of Max Heart. Am I gonna be stuck in Cure Hell forever? (Said as if PreCure DIDN’T rock)
I saw one episode of Aria the Natural and two episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
I’ve been reading Kemono Friends à la Carte and The World of Narue. I also got a few more comics for Christmas, including Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle (featuring an alternate version of Sakura Kinomoto!), another bilingual volume of Yotsuba&! and a local Norwegian comic I liked as a kid called Felina: Spreke Påfunn, about a cat furry. I’m yet to really crack these open, though.
Animation on Blorptube
The Leader — a donghua (Chinese animation) about the life of Karl Marx — was one I’d wanted to see for a long time, so I’m glad I got the opportunity. It was a good 'un.
I didn’t manage to catch all of Interstella 5555 and My Life as a Teenage Robot but the parts I managed to catch were fun.
Garg is still showing Cardcaptor Sakura, as Aer mentioned elsewhere in this thread.
Aggretsuko: We Wish You A Metal Christmas was one I’d apparently forgotten to mark that I’d already seen, but it was nice to rewatch. It’s rare that we watch dubbed anime on the blorps but I have nothing against it. Tokyo Godfathers was also dubbed, and that was the first time I’d managed to watch that movie in full. Good movie! My first Satoshi Kon work. I’m looking forward to future Kon blorps.
As for myself, I’m still showing My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic — we’re now midway through the ninth and final season. I’ve finished showing the Equestria Girls specials and the Rainbow Roadtrip special, and tomorrow I’ll be showing the Friendship is Magic shorts.
I’m also still showing Fireman Sam, and I started showing Once Upon a Time… The Discoverers. It’s weaker than Once Upon a Time… The Americas but still a good time. I’m thinking of blorping Squirrel & Hedgehog after it’s over.
I held a 2000s fanime potpourri of Twinkle Girls, Guilderland Mew Mew, Alfea Chronicles, Gothic Fuzzles, Sakura Ai, Illusions Dreams, Akuji Tavarious, and Strawberry Moon. See my tier list.
I made an incredibly rudimentary 14 minute animation titled “A Blorpy New Year” as a New Year’s Eve special. People responded really well to it, which warmed my heart. Otherwise, I’m making slow progress on my main fanime project (still writing the second draft of the first episode’s script), and my Norwegian dub of The Memories of Phantasm (still writing the ADR script for the first episode), but progress is progress, right?
Animation with others otherwise
I saw the first episode of The Secret of Cerulean Sand with my aunt. I really enjoyed it; I’m looking forward to blorping it.
It’s been over a month now since I last watched New Game with Aer. I’ve been meaning to ask if she wants to get back to that soon.
I’m still watching The Boondocks season 4 with my mom (we’re very close to the end now!), as well as Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated, Sailor Moon R, Ojamajo Doremi, and CITY The Animation. I showed her the first episode of Serial Experiments Lain, too, and I think she’s interested in seeing where it goes? But also doesn’t seem to usually be in the mood for those sorts of heavy themes. We’ve started watching the newest season of Bob’s Burgers together, too. It’s been ages since I last saw BB, it’s a good 'un.
Tesagure! Bukatsumono and Milky Subway are still in a bit of a limbo where I don’t know whether she wants to watch them with me. No progress on Steins;Gate since October, nor progress on Ranma ½ reboot season 2 since November.
I finished making my chart of anime I watched with my mom in 2025; I’m also gonna make a tier list of it with her input. I’ll make a chart and tier list of anime I watched without her in 2025 at a later point when I’ve got the energy for it.

Fun fact: There’s an industrial pop cover from 2010.
Maison Ikkoku is very good, but for me it has the same issue as the original Ranma 1/2. Too much mediocre filler.
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
Ranma and Uruyatsu got reboots this decade, makes me wonder if there will ever be one for Maison…
Edit: Actually, apropos reboots, did you hear there’s gonna be a friggin Minky Momo 50th anniversary OVA?!
No, I hadn’t.
If they insist on remakes, they should finally make The Irresponsible Captain Tylor S2 or a new Slayers anime

Manga
Haven’t really read much this past month, but I’ve got a bunch of yuri that I’ve been meaning to read. Perhaps I’ll report back next month.
Anime
Seasonal (Fall 2025)
I don’t think my impressions have changed much since last month, and I’m up to date on all the shows there (save for the one I dropped) so you can check out that comment if you’re curious. A few additional comments:
May I Ask for One Final Thing? (Saigo ni Hitotsu dake Onegai shitemo Yoroshii deshou ka) — Really would have liked if there were more noble-punching in the latter half, but it was still fun—recommended for anyone looking for an amusing action series.
This Monster Wants to Eat Me (Watashi wo Tabetai, Hitodenashi) — Yuri enjoyers, don’t miss out on this one. Definitely gonna continue with the manga (S2 never, probably). Also, I can’t get over how much the MC looks like Nanashi Mumei from Hololive English Promise.
Seasonal (Winter 2026)
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War -Stairway to Adulthood- (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai - Otona e no Kaidan) — Already watched it, super duper cute, need I say more?
Very curious to know what people are excited about—let’s hear those recommendations! Besides the obvious Frieren, I skimmed through the list and picked these ones out:
- There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover! Unless… ~Next Shine~ (Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Naijan, Murimuri! (※Muri ja Nakatta!?): Next Shine!) — WataNare was one of my favorite shows of last year. I’ve already got this downloaded, and I can’t wait to watch it!
- The Holy Grail of Eris (Eris no Seihai) — Mystery-themed, apparently, and I love mysteries!
- Champignon Witch (Champignon no Majo) — honestly idk anything about this one, but it’s shōjo and the poster caught my eye
- The Darwin Incident (Darwin Jihen) — This has the potential to be extremely hamfisted, but the synopsis starts off with “The Animal Liberation Alliance, an eco-terrorist organization” so I can’t not check it out.
- Journal with Witch (Ikoku Nikki) — I already had the (highly-rated) manga on my PTR and it’s josei, so that’s a no-brainer
- The Case Book of Arne (Arne no Jikenbo) — Another josei, another mystery anime
- Does It Count If You Lose Your Virginity to an Android? (Android wa Keiken Ninzuu ni Hairimasu ka??) — …I know, I know, but when it comes to yuri anime, beggars can’t be choosers. Hopefully there’s some substance to this one and it’s not pure smut.
- Love Through a Prism (Prism Rondo) — Anime original, so there’s not much to go on, but the fact that it’s set in early-1900s London has me intrigued.
- Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- (Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten) — More Madoka? Sign me up!
Non-seasonal
Cardcaptor Sakura — We just finished the first story arc this past week, so there’s about 1/3 of the show left to go. Still lovely as always.
Beck — I saw someone say that this anime is a masterpiece if you watch it when you’re 14, and now that I’m a few episodes in I can see that they’re 100% right lol. Still enjoying it as an adult, though. Also, the OP is so damn catchy. I WAS BORN TO HIT IN AMERICA!

Kaguya-sama: Love Is War -Stairway to Adulthood-
It’s already out?! Goodness gracious I completely forgor. Looks like it hasn’t been dubbed yet, though.
Love Through a Prism (Prism Rondo) — Anime original, so there’s not much to go on, but the fact that it’s set in early-1900s London has me intrigued.
That does sound intriguing! Luv me an anime original, simple as
Very curious to know what people are excited about
High School Kimengumi is an 80s absurdist comedic SoL show, which is untranslated. Might as well watch the new one.
Scum of the Brave looks to be slop, but at least it’s sci-fi. Something not too common these days.
You and I Are Polar Opposites, the manga, has been recommended a lot. Guess I’ll check out the generic romcom too.
