Which…is exactly the point, no? It’s the classic colonial imagination in action. The Saudis(UAE, Qatar etc) are western puppets, therefore, they are the only people who deserve a regional title and get to be considered civilized and a part of the in group in the ME. Everyone else are just barbarians/terrorists who just sort of exist on the periphery solely to be conquered and submitted to the will of “civilization.”
Aside from the possible racist implications of the middle east comment, it’s still capitalism doing capitalism shit. Buying up a chunk of popular media to whitewash your atrocities has been in the playbook for over a century.
