Also, I am pretty sure the games main fanbase is probably pretty… critical of police, to put it mildly.
Beyond that, Zero Parades devs aren’t the Disco Elysium devs anyway.
In a similar way, people also view ZA/UM differently, except ZA/UM actually used to be respected a little bit first.

Were any of the original writers left, or did the new owners of ZA/UM hire some hacks and/or use a LLM, prompted to write something in the vein of Disco Elysium?
There might be some lower level person who has some writing credit left, I’m not sure. I know Anton Vill (who drew the thought cabinet) still works at ZA/UM and I think is involved in the artwork of Zero Parades. But none of the original creators of the IP are left, and none of the major contributors (Robert Kurvitz, Argo Tuulik, Martin Luiga) are left.
Sinamäe (the person quoted in the article) and Justin Keenan (who’s listed in the credits of DE as an editor, but apparently did a lot of writing) are still at ZA/UM as writers.
I totally agree, but also paradoxically think two detectives solving a crime is an essential genre for storytelling.
Two detectives solving a crime.
Doctors treating patients.
A family unit living a normal life.
Workers getting through a normal workday.

Any crime done by a spy in one nation is “a solve” from the side of the other nation.
Just shows how much they don’t understand Disco Elysium. Because the whole time you are playing it you are being shown how bad the police are. Even if you’re playing an absolute saint of a playthrough, your actions prior to that were neglectful at best. Not just your division but the entire police force is in the pocket of the regime. Half the people you interact with don’t trust you, from the get-go. The whole fucking game is screaming ACAB while still allowing you to engage in a wonderfully crafted world that plays on the tropes of a buddy-detective story.
I mean, I don’t know about that personally. It’s definitely not a game that glorifies the police, but I also wouldn’t call it an ACAB propaganda machine by any stretch of the imagination. If anything it’s completely neutral on the matter. It contains both examples of police being absolute scumbags and police being just good people trying their best to help others (such as Kim, Judit and even to an extent Jean - as well as others I’m sure).
Even beyond characters I feel like it is pretty even-handed, and multiple times goes into detail about the hardships and emotional toll of policework in a sympathetic manner, such as during the death notification.

I was enjoying it, but then Slay the Spire 2 came out and I got stuck playing that because it’s like crack or nicotine or something addictive and probably harmful for you like that.
Esoteric Ebb is fucking awesome and everyone should buy it so they can get funding to add voice acting.

I decided to try the demo for “Zero Parades” just because it sounded interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed Disco. I think the download time was longer than my playtime and I ultimately uninstalled it since the demo provided an experience that is visually similar to Disco but I lost all desire to play it after a few minutes of shit voice acting and weird new game mechanics that made no sense to me. I am keeping an eye on a few other projects from the original Disco devs such as Tangerine Antarctic so here is hoping one of them puts together a worthwhile game with a new spin on this style. I have to recommend Esoteric Ebb for anyone who was a fan of Disco and wants that kind of experience in a more traditional fantasy setting. I made it to Election day and have a bit of final stuff to do and I will be looking for another game but this has been every bit as good as Disco in my opinion.
