They’re fine, but as you mentioned in the first paragraph, lack of a standard is their main drawback. You could find two power supplies with the exact same connector but different voltage and polarity.

It’s pretty, but when the surface of water is involved it really becomes necessary to take simultaneous pictures for left and right. The refraction changes chaotically very quickly, so there’s a mismatch between the left and right image.

I don’t mean to discourage you, this is still good, just pointing out the shortcomings of the method!
