It’s been a year since I was let go from my last full time, permanent job. I’ve never been able to find work since then. I know that if they were to just put me on the desk, I’d do the job well and excel at it. But nobody will do that. Because I can’t network. I’m sorry, but I can’t fake sincerity. I can’t pretend I’m not just talking to someone because I want a job. But this arbitrary thing that has nothing to do with the job is apparently the end-all-be-all of finding work.

Litterally every single job I’ve ever had in my life, from my first job working in a bed and breakfast to my current job working in tech, I got because I knew someone who put my name in the mix. Every single job I ever applied to with just a resume and my credentials rejected me.

Similar to me. I’ve only gotten hired by Black managers who saw the potential in me. They were right but weird only Black people hire me.( it’s not weird I know why)

Exact same thing here. Couldn’t get hired as a fucking grocery store shelf-stocker back in high school without my dad knowing the manager.

I hear ya and feel the same way. Really cool I’m cursed with a brain that needs to map out conversations because I wasn’t given the part that “naturally” learns to socialize. Works great at Friday Night Magic, not so much when trying to pretend I care about football.

If “god” is real I want to meet him so I can punch him in the face.

If someone is really chatty and talks to you the whole time during a match at FNM does it bother you? It’s me I’m the chatty guy but someone’s I’m not sure if I’m bothering the quieter people

    Neurodivergent by chance?

I’m about to lose my job because my boss gave me an assignment with a ton of unstructured datasets from various sources, no relationships between them and is asking me to create visualizations out of everything. Convinced that I’ve only gotten jobs because my previous employers have seen a way in which they might be able to capitalize off of “quirks” of mine

I try to bring structure into an org and instead of valuing the suggestion to make things more efficient, the company continues operating like everything being on fire is just the way it is

      Yes, I’m neurodivergent.

Sorry about that. The real full-time jobs I got were a call center helpdesk that was basically just a sweatshop where they pretty much only wanted to put butts in seats, two jobs during the covid job market, in which it was so much in our favor, it was ridiculous, and one temporary job.

It’s so rough :/ sorry you’re also going through this.

I only got my most recent job because I struck up a conversation with a dude and he basically hired me on the spot. Needless to say, it’s not working out.

Not sure if you’re familiar with the pattern of being told you’ll never find a place to work that doesn’t make you miserable because “you ask for too much” (i.e. the meekest of accommodations that don’t threaten the bottom line). Such a dumb game and a game is exactly what it is

Back to your post though- It seems like the only answer is to put yourself out there and if that’s too overwhelming, maybe you can take small steps to put yourself out there little by little and just put yourself into positions where employment could come out of a conversation or something. It’s really all about who you know and I wish that was not the case though I suppose you don’t have much to lose at applying ad nauseam on indeed or LinkedIn and playing the lottery. There’s also different recruiting companies that do a decent job placing people in roles. Good luck out there and keep pushing forward

It sounds more absurd when I put into actual words lol he just asked me to take data from one source with completely raw data and just feed it into a visualization tool. Just did not care at all about the ETL process whatsoever and keeps telling me to not to let perfect be the enemy of good enough. I’ve never worked in a company like this. Then, when I start to begin building the relationships in question with this garbage/truncating the data to make it usable, I’m absolutely hammered with bullshit ad-hoc requests

But yeah, tell me more about how I’m unemployable because I’m on the spectrum instead of admitting that this is just shit management. I actually thrived during my time at a billion dollar company because they had processes in place to allocate manpower efficiently and thought intently about these “pre-steps” because they’re pretty damn important (who could’ve guessed that there’s a reason why you learn this stuff about project management).

I was in a similar position after moving states and found a government work placement program that helped me. You may wanna try that while they still have funding. I have also found networking groups on meet-up that look decent and everyone is openly looking to boost careers. Best of luck out there friend

If you have bad 关系, you’re not going to get far in life beyond toiling in a factory if you’re lucky enough for that.
