Okay, long story short: I know how hard-left this sub is, and I’m pretty much to the left myself. I can’t stand crooked law enforcement. I fiercely support Black Lives, and I think we need reform badly.
But I happen to enjoy some movies/shows/games that have police characters.
And I’m getting beyond fed up with seeing a certain movie (Zootopia) that impacted me so much get attacked from the left in this manner. Basically, I don’t agree with how some in the hard left keep holding it up as “cop propaganda” or “fascist”, which it isn’t, and people accusing it of “getting racial allegories wrong” when in reality, the movie is an allegory for prejudice as a whole.
Like, I don’t find crap like this funny. I find it infuriating. That’s not meant to symbolize anything in real life, it’s just something that happened with those animals in a kids’ movie. It doesn’t clash with the movie’s messaging at all. It’s not “police apologism” because the police department is depicted as inept in many ways, and the story contains a moral against unfair profiling. Now for some reason, the “NP” link option isn’t working, but I discussed this before in BreadTube and CompleteAnarchy. I’m asking you how you feel about this because I once encountered a thread in this sub mocking Judy Hopps, doing the whole “ACAB” thing, and I was legit upset by it. If you think I’m some kind of idiot, weirdo or loser for getting so emotional about a game aimed at gamers that’s part of a company that’s your right. But people have been sharing “ Judy’s’s a pig, smash the state” memes in the Zootopia sub. And as someone who can’t watch certain scenes in the movie without crying my eyes out, they really bothered me and I didn’t think they were fair at all.

I believe in both. I think that law enforcement that isn’t crooked is possible, but capitalist systems inherently preclude it, and in pretty much every jurisdiction on Turtle Island for sure, and probably the rest of the Western world, reform isn’t a solution and it would be necessary to tear the whole system down and start over.
But left-liberals who at least believe in both of these statements and seek reforms that would curb the worst of the system’s failures, do exist and are a definite improvement over your average liberal who just believes the first one and doesn’t understand at all why so many cops are crooked.

See this sort of copypasta always works best when it’s written like the layers of an onion: peeling back the layers one by one to gradually reveal the writer’s true motives, before building itself back up into an equally ridiculous defense of those true motives. As it stands, unfortunately, this copypasta — though it has its moments — is only the pretense, the façade, the tatemae: it has no clear “crack in the mask” moment, certainly no “burst of the dam” moment, it’s setup without a punchline. Which means it’s a B rate copypasta at best.
The guy didn’t actually want to fuck the bunny cop, that’s why it’s not as good as you want it to be. This is actually only the main post the guy made, he went on to crash out in multiple additional threads about it. By the end people were unironically telling him that it was a joke and he should leave because the whole thing was clearly causing him a lot of emotional distress, but it didn’t really seem to take.
I am aware that it’s a verbatim comment by a real person, I’m just saying that if you’re going to make it into a copypasta you might as well embellish it — it’s already been divorced from its original author.

But honestly I’ve always felt this bit was kinda mean-spirited, right from the jump, so in all seriousness, I kinda don’t like the idea of retroactively vindicating the old sub for its frankly cruel irony-poisoned reaction to the original post.
Yeah, that’s fair. I guess I was thinking that if the bit is distanced from its original inspiration that that would make it feel less mean-spirited, but I can also see how doing that could end up having the opposite effect in practice.
Especially given how aggressively critical the movie is of law enforcement, and bigotry in general.
The movie is anti-“bad cops” but also pro-cop. It opposes the hypothetical bad apples.
