Not sure how many of you remember the “Hooked on Phonics” commercials of yore, but they were an educational product designed to help kids struggling to read that aired in commercials all through the late 80s and 90s.
My dumb-ass thought the phonics “hooked on” to you like some kind of glasses or braces headgear.

I suffered from hyperlexia in 1st grade and they took me out of math class to fix it.
Now I suck at math.
I made a lot of dumb mistakes as a kid, but for this specific one I was protected from making that mistake because my parents bought cheap record albums.
Most everyone Millennial and older knows this series of compilation albums:

Back in the early 80s the exact same format was called “Hooked on …”, and my father bought a few of these and had them in the house. These are two I remember specifically we owned:


So when “Hooked on Phonics” came out, initially thought it was from the same producers but the missing airbrushed rainbow artwork quickly communicated it was someone else just riding the coattails of the original series.
