          I think she’s betting long term for when the orange baby dies and the implosion of his cult of personality takes a lot of the GOP with it. If that happens she can point to her new record and position herself as the return to sanity whilst also still being a republican which gives current and then ex-maga supporters an out without having to admit that their shitty morals is what got the petty petulant perpetual pants pooper into power.

            Honestly a very solid strategy now that Georgia is purple. Especially if she is angling for a governor or senate position.

            I hate it, but I can recognize the strategy amd logic behind it

          Honestly, while she’s definitely irredeemable, I do think that Republican voters would’ve still fallen for all this shit without her, but some might stop believing because of her. It’s easier to follow someone out of something like this than to make the trek alone. A lot of Republicans are finally feeling the burn and looking around for someone to break away first, and MTG might actually be that for some people. Good actions don’t make up for bad ones, but I’ll take what I can get.

      I don’t think she is trying to rehabilitate her image. I think she was a MAGA and Qanon true believer, and she’s genuinely only just now figured out that they were lying criminals. She’s still 100% on-board with the hateful, bigoted, totalitarian christofascism; she just no longer trusts Trump’s faction to lead it.

          I do think she’s hoping for some comeback in the midterms

          The trouble I have with the argument that she’s planning a “comeback” is that she only needs such a thing because she resigned in protest in the first place. She could have just… not done that, continued to criticize the regime (or hell, switched parties if @teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 's argument about her being “to the left of most of the democratic fucking party” is to be believed), and been in a better position. Yet that’s not what she did.

          I have no idea what her plan is, and to be honest, I think that’s because the most likely explanation is that she’s simply a genuine idiot and doesn’t have one.

      She is anticipating that sooner or later trump will fuck up so badly that republicans will look for a saner leader. She wants to appeal to all the political conservatives - as distinct from the maga muppets - who currently feel disenfranchised. She’s setting herself up for a presidential run. It’s quite cunning really.

      The only possible good that I can see from this weird ‘turn’ of hers is that now that she’s speaking truth, perhaps some of the boomers she peddled fake news to will listen and never vote Republican again. Not going to hold my breath however.

          Yeah. It was a bad attempt at a joke about how the Democrats in the US seem to ever slowly move to the right. Probably to attempt attracting a broader spectrum of voters, but it has the effect of making their policies not so distinguishable from any other right leaning party, just not as radical as the Republicans. And MTG moving from radical to somewhat sensible means she may soon reach a point very close to some Democrats.

      It’s a bit of a trend in US politics.

      JFK = John F. Kennedy

      AOC = Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

      MTG = Marjorie Taylor Greene

      I think it has more to do with the US preferring to use the second name initial as an identifier, like with George Bush and George W. Bush. Three letters just roll off the tounge better, while everyone know who is meant. Of course, with AOC it’s not her second name but a classic Spanish doubled surname. Though it couls be from somewhere else, too. Idk what countries all have doubled surnames.

The drive for power is so strong that any alignment will be feasible until it is wrenched away from them. Then “whatever it takes” is on the menu to maintain relevancy and attempt to clutch power right back.

            Yeah, it’s wonderful the intermixing of our languages and cultures that has provided such range for communicating. I love that you had a word in your vernacular that you perhaps hadn’t read yet, but knew it applied and brought it out in the conversation.

            I had the opposite happen to me once where I read “ciao” so many times, but hadn’t connected it with the right pronunciation.

              This is actually a first for me. Like usually it’s words I’ve read but didn’t know how to pronounce. Barring generic spelling errors I’ve never known a word that was spelled so differently than I’d assumed.
