Mayonnaise cheesecake with Doritos crust
That would be a great prank food to take to a pot luck
Whoa, settle down there Beelzebub.
That is the most Caucasian food ever to exist
You know, you’d be right to not want to eat it, what with it being horribly unhealthy.
However, you might be surprised how well mayo can work in that kind of dish. There’s tomato pie recipes that are very mayo heavy, but they’re amazing.
I can see this working, flavor wise. Still wouldn’t eat it beyond a single taste, because damn.
I guess it could work if done right, I just find the thought of using mayo in a dessert somewhat revolting. Perhaps it’s more savory than sweet, but then it still might end up too greasy to be enjoyable.
The way I see it there’s just too many things that could go wrong with it – yes, it could be good but the chances seem small enough for me not to want to risk it.
Well, I wouldn’t use up ingredients to make it just to try it, if you feel me. But if somebody sat it in front of me, I’d dig in and hope for the best lol. But I’m an adventurous eater. Wasn’t always that way, but sometime in my late twenties, I started trying things I hadn’t liked before, and it turned out my tastes had changed. So I kinda just stopped looking at new, or weird foods the same way.
There’s a handful of things that were so nasty in smell, taste, or texture that I wouldn’t try them again later down the road, though.
I mean I probably probably would do the same in this case, but I’d try a tiny piece just to be safe because my visceral reaction to the thought of this is still more gag reflex than anything else.
Something about the consistency of Mayo that seems extremely off-putting for it to be used in this way.
My visceral reaction was disgust. I like mayo okay but not that much. It just feels… Gross. Too rich. But a actual cheesecake might have the same/more? calories and I’m all, “delicious.”
Well, in the interest of science, I just looked it up, and it turns out that mayonnaise has approx. twice as much fat as your standard cream cheese. Also, it’s obviously a different kind of fat because mayo is typically made with vegetable oil whereas cream cheese has milkfat instead.
Since this is a cheesecake after all, the filling likely has both in it — perhaps they just used mayo in place of the usual sweet or sour cream. Either way, the end result would likely still have a higher fat content than regular cheesecake (because even heavy whipping cream has no more fat in it than cream cheese).
Long story short, your initial reaction seems spot on and it’s precisely the same thought that also filled me with disgust when I first saw this.
I Hate mayo with all my heart and soul BUT of you use mayo in a cake it turns out a lot more fluffy. Maybe because its just eggs and oil
Mayonnaise also has vinegar in it, but certainly not enough to be noticeable in a sweet dish.
I guess my main concern is that it might have a distinct taste of mayo to it (in order to warrant the name), in which I case I’d be worried that it would likely make me gag. Because even though I like mayonnaise, I never want to have THAT much of it in my mouth at any given time.
Oh not it doesn’t taste at all like mayo (if you use the original one of course) I hate mayo and I did it. It wasn’t a brand with a huge vinegar taste, use a lighter brand taste wise
Thank God mayonnaise isn’t spicy…
Yeah, I see how it can probably work in a pinch, as long as the taste isn’t overpowering. I think that’s my main concern with this dish – that it DOES taste enough like mayonnaise to deserve being called mayo cheesecake, and not just “cheesecake that happens to have mayo in it because I ran out of cream and eggs”.
well I never used in cheesecake, i used in regular cake. It makes sense not to taste like mayo since a regular cake already has eggs and oil.
Oh yeah, I mean in regular dough it really shouldn’t be noticeable at all. Still feels weird, but logically, I see no reason why it shouldn’t work.
The Vulgar Chef?
This might summon Regular Ordinary Swedish Mealtime. Pre-dinner snack!
This is an abomination.
I would have taken a bite out of that before posting the photo LOL!
