So I am out with my family for Father’s Day and we passed a church who had:

“What’s your favorite Bible verse? Post it on our Facebook.”

And it got me to wondering how they would react if someone started posting all of the verses from their storybook that specifically call out the behavior of modern Christians. All the ones about welcoming immigrants and providing shelter and care for the poor, or deriding capitalism. Wonder what would happen if people did that en masse? I almost want to write a bot to go through and do it.

That’s too good to have to search:

32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all 34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need

Still saying they were holding out their hands with a cheesy grin everytime they talked about money.

Like Joel Osteen. “It’s hard for rich men to get to heaven, so buy me another private jet. The new model.”

I suppose, but it’s also very similar to “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.”

I am reminded of the Military Voices Initiative in which the US Army encouraged people to share their best army experiences on (Pre-X) Twitter. Incoming tweets told tales like My commanding officer hosed me so I’d have to serve a full eight year term but wouldn’t get my college fund or I was serial raped by four guys in my unit and when I tried to report it I was given a general discharge.

Oh it’s so much much better than that though. They titled a Facebook post, “How has military service impacted your life?”

They got everything from gold star families cursing them to rape stories. Completely backfired.

    Leviticus 19:13-16 (NIV)

'Do not defraud or rob your neighbor. “ 'Do not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight.

I’d mention the one about giving daughters to be gang raped, but honestly I think that would just reinforce current behaviors. I think the collective meh would be more horrifying than the quote.

There’s a part of me that thinks that conservatives would be unfazed by this since they really don’t treat women right anyway

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

The problem with this one is that while it proves that it has more smut than literally any book they are banning, it also is a direct support of their attacks on sex workers, which I would rather be able to refute as well.

It does, the whole verse is horrible. Basically says because of her ways, god sent the men from all the nations she hasn’t slept with to be with her. He had Abraham kill all of his sons so not too surprising I suppose.

But it’s okay as long as they repent next week or during confessional.
