Need to let loose a primal scream without collecting footnotes first? Have a sneer percolating in your system but not enough time/energy to make a whole post about it? Go forth and be mid: Welcome to the Stubsack, your first port of call for learning fresh Awful youāll near-instantly regret.
Any awful.systems sub may be subsneered in this subthread, techtakes or no.
If your sneer seems higher quality than you thought, feel free to cutānāpaste it into its own post ā thereās no quota for posting and the bar really isnāt that high.
The post Xitter web has spawned soo many āesotericā right wing freaks, but thereās no appropriate sneer-space for them. Iām talking redscare-ish, reality challenged āculture criticsā who write about everything but understand nothing. Iām talking about reply-guys who make the same 6 tweets about the same 3 subjects. Theyāre inescapable at this point, yet I donāt see them mocked (as much as they should be)
Like, there was one dude a while back who insisted that women couldnāt be surgeons because they didnāt believe in the moon or in stars? I think each and every one of these guys is uniquely fucked up and if I canāt escape them, I would love to sneer at them.
(Semi-obligatory thanks to @dgerard for starting this)
For some reason the previous weekās thread doesnāt show up on the feed for me (and didnāt all week)ā¦nvm, i somehow managed to block froztbyte by accident, no idea howlemmy explores new frontiers of ux design
the specific frontiers being explored are the parts of Oregon Trail that kill you
Two of the major donors pushing to recall the mayor of Oakland, CA are cryptocurrency āexecutives.ā

Over the summer, Jesse Pollak, a cryptocurrency investor and executive at Coinbase, launched Abundant Oakland, an advocacy organization that funds āmoderateā candidates running in Oakland races. The organization is explicitly linked to similarly named entities in San Francisco and Santa Monica.
Abundant Oakland has a related political action committee, Vibrant Oakland, which, campaign filings show, has received donations from Pollak ($115,000), the Oakland police officers association ($50,000), cryptocurrency executive Konstantin Richter ($60,000), the northern California carpenters regional council ($150,000) and a Pac controlled by Piedmont landlord Chris Moore ($100,000).
I wonder if the OpenAI habit of naming their models after the previous onesā embarrassing failures is meant as an SEO trick. Google āchatgpt strawberryā and the top result is about o1. It may mention the origin of the codename, but ultimately youāre still streered to marketing material.
Either way, Iām looking forward to their upcoming AI models Malpractice, Forgery, KiddieSmut, ClassAction, SecuritiesFraud and Lemonparty.
i used to be the sysadmin for lemonparty
it was quite a surprise when i found out i can tell you

You did a damn good job spreading the Word of Ed.
NASB, I had a jarring experience this morning watching Patrick Boyleās latest video āBig Tech is Going Nuclear!ā (not gonna link it) where 5 mins in he introduces the sponsor and itās an AI presentation slide generator, which he said he used for the images in his video. This after he mentioned the data on generating one image using the same amount of energy as charging a smartphone. The thing is he seems careful to not mention that it is a gen ai productāhe never says AIārather a piece of software that helps making presentations.
It kinda made me panic stop the video, like an instant āwell, done with youā - not sure if he continued to make a joke of it or anything. I mean, Iām sure (I hope) he was given a lot of money for the spot, but damn! Just when I thought I had a foundational understanding of people
The thing is he seems careful to not mention that it is a gen ai productāhe never says AIārather a piece of software that helps making presentations.
The term āAIā damages sales when used in advertising - whatever script Boyle got was definitely written by people who knew that fact.
I also predicted something like this would happen (though within a very specific context) a while ago - seems my predictionās coming true.
Ok, but are you suggesting he was duped?
The guy seems shrewd enough to know publicly supporting anything AI will shred his reputation - I suspect he might have been duped.
Yeah, I get what youāre saying but Iād really have to stretch my benefit-of-the-doubt muscles to consider someone who makes such well-researched videos wouldnāt go to the website before he reads the url out on his video and see that on the homepage, above the fold, in big letters, it says āPowered by AIā
Olivia Squizzle followup: AI Replacement | Drawing Your Requests
This isnāt the first time Iāve seen something like this, but its always nice to see someone actively piss all over AI in this manner.
beat me by seconds.
Sheās incredible
Kicking off the sack with something light.
I see RicksCEO.eth has since quietly removed the ā.ethā part of his name. Presumably it was way more embarrassing than being a strip club tycoon.
it looks like checkmarks retailated
unlike Rick, she did get laid
some years ago I wanted to build a bot that tracks all these loons, but the twitter API reqs are onerous as fuck so I never bothered
feel like thereās probably still a need for something like that. perhaps even more so than before, given how mask-off the snakepit is getting
Considering API access is now I think 40k a month + you pay for usage, prob good you never got into that. So the time doesnāt feel wasted.
Headcanon: he changed it as a result of this epic bonnie slam
Godspeed, Bonnie. Iām gonna call this a good omen for the week.
