that incident had multiple layers of stupid.
- they put president + half of govt + couple of generals in one plane for some reason
- it was in preparation of a rather standard conservative dog and pony show, that is visit of president to Katyń. they would be kinda late if they used alternative airport, and looks are everything, so Smolensk airport it is
- weather was shitty and pilot initially refused to land there as there was no suitable infrastructure, but was pressured by commander of air force in person
- you might think that, why did he do that, it’s pilot that has authority in plane things, not passengers? well something similar happened two years before in Georgia (the plan was to land in Ganja, Azerbaijan, then go to Tbilisi in APCs, but prez wanted to land directly in Tbilisi, then with war ongoing), pilot did not yield, and was later under investigation for not following official order. general command got involved and they even wanted to give authority to co-pilot, that wanted to cooperate, but he couldn’t do that back then for some reason. that co-pilot was later pilot in Smolensk
for about decade later conservatives played victim with this incident and accused liberals of causing it as a part of their campaign strategy. are they competent enough to repeat that?

Set to all this was Donald Fucking Trump being elected twice, a rampaging virulent epidemic that half the people didn’t believe was real, and nazis coming back and genocides becoming fashionable again, and violent anti-science groups forming across the world.

Despite the fact his plane is produced by a company plagued with consistent quality control issues I believe this should be rushed into service as quickly as possible. In fact, I agree that the anyone including temp workers should be allowed in to get this thing in the air today.
