Fun fact, scopes, gun attachments, and some ammunition aren’t locked behind cages at Walmart. The gun rack doesn’t even have an attendant 95% of the time, you can just walk up.
You know what is locked behind bulletproof glass? Baby formula. Diapers. Toothpaste. Condoms. Shampoo. Bar soap. Plan B pills.
Specifically black haircare products and not white haircare products.
Socks and underwear
Pants and undershirts
Specifically black haircare products and not white haircare products.
Racism, pure racism… :(
I was just gonna say that this has to be an urban segregation thing. Our Walmarts where I am at are mostly in predominately white neighborhoods. We don’t have anything really behind glass except tobacco. Meanwhile our PoC dominant neighborhoods have barred windows on their gas stations and liquor stores. These are also coincidentally the most underfunded neighborhoods. Yet our Walmarts are by half a million dollar homes. It’s by design but I think that is preaching to the choir. Solidarity for my PoC comrades.:(
Gosh that’s messed up. Then they turn around and say that “POC are violent” when the underfunding of services leads to desperation, lost hope etc then the violence probqbly starts after being treated so badly
I wasn’t even really aware of this here until I joined in the marches after George Floyd was murdered. Started working a bit more with our local PoC figures and it became an eye opener. I try to help where I can with drives and awareness but with being vaguely involved with local politics, when funding for these areas get brought up it always falls in dead ears. They tried to get money for a park and cleaner water but we really needed a new baseball stadium instead, ya know?
They already gave baseball stadiums, but suuure they need ANOTHER one?? :(
Everythings in reverse :(

Yes, I am near a city in the US with a 60% black population.
It used to be a bustling hub with a population of 600,000 and it was a gleaming heart of transport, steel manufacturing, and industry.
As black people moved to the city, white flight began, and now the city is a shell and husk of its former self. A population of 50,000 is all that remains, all the industry has left and has rotted away, and the stores are all barricaded and closed down.
The black population are basically interned in a city turned into an massive camp, by police officers that come from wealthier neighborhoods outside the city. The neighborhoods surrounding the city have houses worth 5+ million dollars but they are separated from the city by bridges, highways, and impassable obstacles so that you can only each them by car.
The irony is palpable. Only probably 10% live in the rich houses. The rest live in hovels on the outskirts of the rich neighborhoods, and they delude themselves that they are part of the “in group”.
Something that blows my mind about US infrastructure is how so many suburbs can only be accessed by underpasses that are specifically designed to be too low for buses. Because minorities tend to use public transportation more.
Blows my mind how they will actively design their living environments to be worse just so they can be more racist.
and they delude themselves that they are part of the “in group”
It really is this aspect that seems to cause a lot of the suffering. Like just in general. I see a bit of this whenever people argue against a minimum wage increase to a living wage and part of that is that they currently make some essentially arbitrary amount that is more than a minimum wage so they fear that it would put impoverished people closer to where they are class-wise. So many arguments that I have had just to lift my fellow humans even a little bit out of a shitty life and people just seem to dig in their heals. The CEO of McDonald’s isn’t gonna let you ride on his yacht, Travis, no matter how many times you try to reduce the workers to “burger flippers”. Sorry for this turning into a tangent/rant… I’m in a gloomy place right now lol.
So what you are saying is I have to steal a gun so I can go shopping. Got it.
You’re telling me AmeriKKKan supermarkets sell birth control?
They usually have a pharmacy section with vitamins, first aid, condoms, and the like.
Plan B is not birth control, it’s an emergency contraceptive for dire situations.
Birth control can only (and should only) be prescribed by actual doctors.
Birth control can only (and should only) be prescribed by actual doctors.
The FDA approved an over-the-counter hormonal birth control about a week ago; no doctor interaction needed.
That’s good! In my knowledge it is a very finicky and dangerous to play around with medication, so an over the counter would be great!
In my knowledge it is a very finicky and dangerous to play around with medication, so an over the counter would be great!
Over-the-counter means it’s just on the shelves (as opposed to prescription-only, or even to behind-the-counter). You don’t have to interact with anyone except the cashier (or self-checkout machine).
I am torn on how I feel about it being freely available for purchase. On the one hand, in the current environment where lack of access to birth control can cause permanent detrimental effects on the trajectory of one’s life, and in which access to doctors who can dispense that medication is not readily available to everyone, the ability to simply walk in and purchase it off the shelf is very beneficial. The only benefit I see to having it be prescribed by a doctor is a (good) doctor forces you to listen to their paragraph about the potential harms and what side effects to watch out for. Mind you, if someone wants to educate themselves, they don’t need a doctor for that, as the information can be found freely online (or even in books at a library!); but, surely there will be plenty of people who don’t care to educate themselves on the potential dangers. Overall, I’m definitely on the side of this being a good decision, but to pretend it is entirely without risk is not accurate.
Danish supermarkets don’t sell condoms and plan B pills afaik
Walmart isn’t a supermarket, only about 1/3rd of the store sells food, the other 2/3rds sell beauty products, cloths, electronics, TV’s, sewing supplies, paint, guns, appliances, garden equipment, toys, etc. Literally everything you will ever need in life can be sold at a Walmart.
We don’t have stores like that in Denmark
Sounds like you need some freedom 🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🇺🇸
Give me a second, I’m calling the US Army
😆
Supermarkets in the US don’t. Walmart has a supermarket in it but it has other departments as well
Plenty of supermarkets in the USA do sell condoms and Plan B, not just Walmart. I’ve seen both in many chains that are just grocery stores, that don’t have other departments.
I’ve never seen them for sale in a supermarket before but I suppose they could
Gosh … This is depressing … Especially when it’s daily needs being locked up. Pure cruelty
It’s done on purpose. It’s things people need to survive. Clothing, baby food, sexual protection, toothpaste.
They know it’s cruel. But they don’t care, they know you have to buy those products, so they’ll squeeze every last penny they can get out of you, even if it’ll kill you.
They don’t want them having baby stuff to “punish the poor for irresponsibly reproducing” and condoms to “punish the gays” (because they still think only gay people can get hiv or other stds)
They don’t want condoms for the first reason you mentioned mainly. It’s so that they can’t have sex without consequence, and if they tried to do it, they’d get pregnant.
I’m sure hating gay people goes into the equation to.
It really is fucked up that they both block contraceptives and baby products. I guess it is that puritan mentality that everyone just needs to suffer. Ironic that they worship a guy who told people to give everything they own to the poor.
They want you to be forced to not have children, but essentially breed to create more workers for them, and then they want you to live in poverty so that those future workers are forced to work low wage jobs, go to the military, or take on an absurd amount of debt.
This is also why they want to eliminate birth control and abortions.
The baby products are what makes me very angry. The absolute audacity. If someone can’t afford a baby product, should we punish the baby by preventing acess? The whole thing makes me angry but the baby products more so than anything else
The Jesus lore has a sequel called Supply Side Jesus now, didn’t you know?
How could I forget! He turned the 5 loaves and 2 fish into enough to feed most of a crowd of people, for a very reasonable price! He didn’t feed all of them though, that would go against supply and demand and lower the prices.
Yeah, that actually does make sense as a reason. Absolutely ridiculous

Who owns the government? Who controls them and forces them to maintain that low wage? Who is doing the exploitation of the people?
The government is an arm of corporate power. They are one and the same entity.
Also Walmart lost 3 billion last year to shoplifting. However their total profit, not revenue, straight profit, was 151 billion dollars.
Furthermore, if Walmart paid each of their employees 100 dollars an hour instead of 15, do you know what their profit would have been? 60 billion dollars lower, at 90 billion a year. Still more money then the GDP of many nations.
I could care less if someone steals from Walmart, you could empty out 500 stores worth of product from them overnight, and it wouldn’t even be enough to be more than a rounding error.
If you’d be interested, I’d recommend that you read “The Peoples Republic of Walmart”, you fall into several cleverly designed logical traps that massive corporations create in order to make themselves look guiltless, and that book clears up several misconceptions, and will truthfully open your eyes to how absolutely disgusting corporate/capitalist power is in the lives of citizens.
Specifically black haircare products and not white haircare products
Is there a difference?
Yes, black hair requires very specific and specially formulated products then white hair, as the texture, roots, and form are completely different. White hair products would wreck havoc on black hair.
What about the other way around?
Depends on the texture and thickness of your hair. But more often then not you would not want to use black product as it would ruin fine textured hair.
Some products can be used by many hair types, but the vast majority are for one hair type or another.
Absolutely ridiculous bullshit. I see people steal constantly and will absolutely never have a problem with people stealing from a company but every time I see it, it just makes me sad people have to. Ridiculous toothpaste isn’t free
indeed
Remember, when you see someone shoplifting, no you didn’t.
I’ve told the people shoftlifting before that I could see the thing they’ve taken and they ought to put it further down in their pocket etc etc but besides that, I never will say anything about it ever. It makes me happy seeing people stealing from stores
You are a good human.
I try to be
Remember, you never see someone shoplifting.
Everything should be free. Allow taking as much as one wants (within reason & as you are able to do now under capitalism) for as long as things are instock, of course their should be checkout counters to make sure things are not running low, measure popular itens, to keep in stock etc. Needing currency to get what you need or want is silly.
I remember hearing that condoms are also being placed behind “safeguards” too.
Store I work at, they’re all locked up in magnetic security boxes. Along with much of the more expensive foodstuff and alcohol.
Aren’t they rather cheap? I don’t get what the point of that would be
They’d probably argue that what they choose to lock up is based on quantity lost rather than value lost, which is how they justify locking up things like laundry detergent and condoms. This justification completely ignores the glaringly obvious connection between the items that are commonly stolen: they’re necessities.
doing the groceries is now called a “run”? Do the associates also loot XP? Do I get to empty the cash register when I defeat the boss? Get real.
lol
You actually do, but the boss is Global Capitalism.
The associates only loot XP when it helps an active Communist revolution.
Target has a deranged cult like atmosphere and they attempt to rename everything they can in order to build this air of importance and uniqueness.
Having worked there, I can say it’s a literal hell.
They call shopping “Doing a Run”, customers are “guests”, cashiers are “guest advocates, and so on.
I can get down with joining your coworkers, and doing a boss fight with ones boss. Taking turns to hit them with your own special creative attack. I don’t know if that is effective praxis but it sounds like a great time.

Interesting. I have heard “running errands”. But I’ve never heard buying groceries being referred to as a “grocery run”.
(Then again, I mostly know English from the internet, so just because I never heard it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. If you don’t mind the question, which part of the world are you from?)
Edit: Never mind, turns out I was replying to someone who got banned from Lemmygrad for being annoying in a different thread. I’m still curious where that phrase is used, if anyone else wants to tell me.
I don’t understand this system. Can’t anyone just open the glass? How does it work and what does it prevent?
I think the cabinet is locked up, and they have to get an employee with a key to open it. The sensor on top is a red herring.
Oh thank you, makes more sense. I totally fell for that red herring didn’t I
lol I kind a focused on the red button too when I first saw it, and took me a second to realize it’s not the lock

The sign of dystopia is that there is so much theft of basic items like toothpaste which wasn’t happening even a few years ago. Imagine not being able to comprehend that lol.
This shit reminds me of the manager in a store I worked for in the past who bragged about chasing and physically assaulting a homeless man for stealing some bread rolls which usually got thrown away after the shift anyway. The fuck was so proud of himself like he did something good for society and said that “he could have found a job instead of stealing”.
It was so disgusting that you could not drag me to that place now even by force, man.
Yeah, just the sheer lack of empathy there is so disgusting.
