Organic farmers and environmental groups sued the Agriculture Department on Monday over its scrubbing of references to climate change from its website.

The department had ordered staff to take down pages focused on climate change on Jan. 30, according to the suit, which was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Within hours, it said, information started disappearing.

At the same time, the department also froze funding that had been promised to businesses and nonprofits through conservation and climate programs. The purge then “removed critical information about these programs from the public record, denying farmers access to resources they need to advocate for funds they are owed,” it said.

Peter Lehner, a lawyer for Earthjustice, said the pages being purged were crucial for farmers facing risks linked to climate change, including heat waves, droughts, floods, extreme weather and wildfires. The websites had contained information about how to mitigate dangers and adopt new agricultural techniques and strategies. Long-term weather data and trends are valuable in the agriculture industry for planning, research and business strategy.

“You can purge a website of the words climate change, but that doesn’t mean climate change goes away,” Mr. Lehner said.

The plaintiffs allege the actions violated three federal laws and were “arbitrary, capricious, an abuse of discretion, or otherwise not in accordance with law.” They asked the court to compel the agency to restore the pages and to block it from deleting any others.

Wes Gillingham, president of the board of Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York, said that farmers were just heading into planning for the summer growing season. He said taking information down because of a “political agenda about climate change” was senseless.

Ironically the far right is borrowing playbooks from the USSR.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysenkoism

In really lazy simplified version… they politicized how plants should be grown, and imprissoned biologists that said “plants don’t work that way”. In short… nature doesn’t give a shit about politics. The weather doesn’t care if you believe in climate change, and you can’t teach plants to work collectively.

Thanks for sharing, this is batshit insane. When you’re political ideology starts to run against reality, it’s a sign to adapt your ideology, not enforce a new “reality”.

As a leftist, modern communists with a hard-on for the Soviet Union baffle me. My comrades, they weren’t liberating the masses of the fraud of religion, they were just creating their own…

I know that companies are people but can we focus on individuals with a heartbeat. Like anyone that attached their names to Project 2025. I’m sure there would be some overlap with the heritage foundation. And no, I’m not saying don’t do Trump.

Many rich people, but we should not confuse wealth with power. Too many do, it’s an easy mistake to make. They’re all just people, assholes for sure, but just the same as anyone else. Not worth any more respect, in fact worth less. Once people see through their illusion they present of having power or strength, people then see them as the worthless pieces of garbage they really are.

A necessary skill for us all to quickly master right now. You see it starting to show in government agencies finally starting to ignore Muskrat, a “civilian advisor” with “no real power” (their words), who’s sending threatening emails to government organizations controlled by congress. They should all just completely ignore him, it’s just another mindless crazy person distraction.

That ship sailed when the SC said presidents are kings and then he was re-elected king. Elon will be pardoned before he sees any consequences.

I hope so too. Unfortunately I think it is highly likely that he is long dead before that becomes a possibility. He will be added to the long list of men who do not have to live through the consequences of their horrific mistakes.

Republicans have been trying to privatize the info from the national weather service for years. They want to charge people for the info they already paid for.

The intention is to gift the info to companies… Who will then sell it to us

Organic may have. It gets people both on tge right and tge left, people who want more natural and less science/additives/pesticides, etc.

Often called woo woo stuff, it’s generally alternative to mainstream stuff, and can be harmless, or could be Goop, Alex Jones stuff, anti modernity etc.

Vegans and environmentalists can also sometimes take those feelings to extremes also, though we should never blame the whole movement on that.

        An example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savitri_Devi

Her motivations to turning to fascism looks to have been at least helped by her passion for animal rights, as lots of people in Europe still tortured cats at the time and she kinda hated people for it.

A prime example of the fact that the path to hell is paved with good intentions. Also this is why I pull all of my philosophy from slovenly Rednecks and openly crazed philosophers, if ya cant imagine them kicking down the door and lowdly entering the room with a plucked chicken then clearly theg care too much about the social order. Alternatively if they seem like theyd chuck a gallon of hemlock extract of spite to prove a point, that is also acceptable.

It’s not the case itself that gives me pause. It’s the feelings it invokes in myself.

I seen this before, the feelings and cynicism and outrage and hope. Well, more accurately I’ve read this in history. Usually the times were bad and getting worse
