Oh yeah, this was absolutely a trial balloon. If there hadn’t been an immediate backlash this would have been rolled out across all US armed forces.
With the paywall, all I can see is the hed and dek, but changing the swastika and noose to “potentially divisive” seems like they just didn’t like the PR they were getting from the first announcement.
“Potentially divisive” was the new status that was previously announced. This atticle is about a reversal of that decision.
Maybe they meant “potentially divisive” in a “your head should be divided from your neck” sense

Idk if you already know, but part of the aim of the og looney tunes was to get kids to listen to classical music, or at least feature it prominently. It was called looney tunes (not 'toons) for a reason
