The looming spectre of Xmas is fucking with me.

I fucking hate Xmas because it highlights what are already sore spots and amplifies them ten fold.

It doesn’t matter how much you succeed, or how well you’re doing. You cannot outrun not having a family.

Christmas was a sore spot until I realised that everyone has a different way of viewing Christmas and I chose to make my own. I have friends with those “picture perfect” families who are so dragged down by the day and appearances. Personally, my favourite Christmas is the one I can spend eating mac n cheese in my pyjamas.

No, you can’t outrun not having a family. But you can choose to have your own traditions, with Gibson, with the strays, with the DT, with a favourite game or book or movie. With knowing that you are an AMAZING person who is treasured!

Xmas is one day, then it’s over. Totally understand that the lead up is so long but thinking of it as one day in a year helps me. I don’t have a close extended family or big family event like others, it’s much like any other day.

Oh shit probably shouldn’t have written what I did above didn’t see your post.

      That’s rough.

Maybe this year a DT xmas IRL meetup party is in order. Would be nice to put faces to names :)

That’s a possibility - I still have to find out if my boys are coming here for Xmas. If not, I’d be open to hosting a DT regulars orphan get together on the fatal day. Will decide a bit later on when I know more about scheduling. Would be a ‘bring a plate to share’ and your own drinks. On the plus side, Thornbury is an eligible central location with easy public transport. Will keep the thread posted as info comes to hand.

I think sometimes when you go through something really difficult, you’ve got to hold it all together just to get through. Then when things get better all the stress and emotions come out.

Worst and best description of this I’ve ever heard is - when you’ve spent so long being frozen up inside, and then you come into the warm and everything melts and leaks out of your eyes. Can attest to the accuracy of this.

Got a fair bit done over the last few days down here. Much easier when there’s no one around. No silly arguments, not having to time / plan shit around dinner / shopping.

Very lucky to be able to use this place no questions asked. Usually over summer fam is down a fair bit and things can get a bit tense. So the idea is to remove a bit of that by getting shit done now in peace and quiet. This year there’ll be SIL/bro’s bubz in tow, ol’ girl’s in no shape so it’s completely on me this year. Back in the day would’ve protested but these days after the last year and a bit sign me the fuck up, any excuse to escape lol.

I have spent many years trying to convince everyone I am not ADHD… Looking around at the disaster in apartment today and realising I probably should not have embarked on a whole new kitchen reorganisation project complete with IKEA kits before I just stopped for ten minutes to do the dishes and put the bloody clothes away. Hmmmm

Partner has man flu and has been binging Severance tonight. I’ve been watching some episodes here and there and he’s into the second season now.

I do find it a bit slow in places. Not the slow burn part, I like slow burns, but just slow to move the story along. Other than that, it’s a solid thriller and I like the realistic subtle sci-fi element, as well as its commentary on corpo life.
