Again, I’m looking for FUN movies that would be good candidates for a trans/queer movie night. Here’s what I have based on internet searching:
-
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (CW: Anti-Asian racism)
-
VelociPastor (not specifically a queer film but came up on some lists I found)
-
The Forbidden Zone (CW: Quite a bit of blackface)
-
All of The Matrix films
Nimona
Yessss nods in red shark form
So good
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is great and fun, but should maybe add a CW as sadly there is some very blatant anti-Asian racism.
This is exactly the kind of feedback I need. Thanks for letting me know!
Hackers! secretly diverse cast + a lot of surprising queer coded characters
Fresa Y Chocolate (Strawberry and Chocolate) a Cuban film about two gay men and how their identity intersects with Cuban politics. We watched it last year on the hextube
Oh now I have to go find and watch that one.
Yes! I included this one, though I still haven’t seen it yet. Would very much like to.
no notes, heavy second on heathers
Chicken Run is a fun movie, although it does get quite dark at some points. And for the current list, i vote to watch VelociPastor.
I enjoyed The Watermelon Woman 1996. Its a documentary-ish film exploring queer history and what it all means.
Tangerine (2015) is pretty fun, but it can be sad too
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
Anyone who watches the Forbidden Zone should be warned that there’s quite a bit of blackface in it. Amazing movie though, especially if you like 1930s cartoons.
Maybe Dracula’s Daughter? I looked through my queer movies and most of them are sad or already on the last. I wish there were more lesbian movies with happy endings
To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar is absolutely required jsyk
I haven’t seen this one, and was thinking of adding it, but I’ve heard some things saying it’s problematic. Is it? or is it something worth watching?
EDIT: Did some more research and it seems alright. Added!
most movies worth watching are also problematic
Added!
Daisies
I really enjoyed Luca. Ending always gets me crying wholesome tears.
Lol maybe She’s the Man?
I really like this thread tho! Queer cinema is always so gross or depressing, Im excited to watch some of these.
