        Ooh sorry missed that comment.

Basically just bringing the DSLR into the ocean right at sunset, getting down low and hope you get a good one and not drop the camera lol. We run it through lightroom for a bit of noise reduction but the great thing is you don’t really need to change much as the sunset does it for you.

I think that looks great and delicious

I just got a lecture on how that type is meal is unhealthy

my suggestion to serve themselves less carbs if they don’t want so much carbs did not go down well , ( everyone in this house serves themselves )

apparently I should cook meals where a person should be able to serve themselves as much as they want

Just got a call from a wrong number.

“Steve just callin’ 'bout your 400 head of cattle”.

Me: “You might have the wrong number, but good luck with the cattle”.

    Him “oh, righto thanks mate”.

Probably the shortest most aussie convo I’ve had in a while.

Bit concerned for Queensland with the coming cyclone. Sounds like it might be very destructive. Hope everyone can stay safe.

Been thinking a lot about friends and family there. It’s looking very serious and worse than the usual floods and ex cyclones/tropical lows they get there. They haven’t had a real cyclone hit them bang on since what, 1974? They’re not as used to this as FNQ or the Pacific islands but I hope there won’t be any deaths at least.

Something I’ve been stressing about for at least a year came into the open at work today and everyone just sorta went 🤷‍♀️

Not sure if that’s good or not, but at least the stress is off my plate.

So lent-ish, I’m giving up browsing reddit for the rest of the month. There’s plenty of more useful things I could do with my spare time than keep up to date with the high quality doom scrolling that’s available these days. If I need to do some research it’s fine but no wandering about in the endless void of it. Deleted my links on PC/phone, the digital equivalent of throwing my bong out.

I meant to edit but deleted 🤦🏼‍♀️I had some Nintendo 3DS and DS games and some in this group showed an interest so I posted a picture. Eagle, Tiny and Alamut very kindly offered to do me a solid and buy some of them. I posted them off on Saturday morning and Tiny and Alamut got theirs already.

Ah damn! And I took the 3DS games to EB for a trade :( I’ve still got some DS games left because they’re not opening trade for those until later in the year, but I think they’re stuff like Transformers etc. I can let you know if you like?

It’s good, unless you had something like Mario Golf World Tour or Kirby’s Epic Yarn I can’t think of anything I really wanted unless I saw the list.

I’m pretty ok with DS games I think as I’ve collected most of the obscure ones for myself awhile ago.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered some supplies to reupholster my couch & armchairs. I’ve been dithering for years over whether I want to spend the money doing that or just buy a new one. I have gotten to the stage of putting everything into the cart and seeing the total a few times, decided it was too much and started looking at new couches instead. Then I decide I quite like my couch and don’t really want the cheap junk I could buy for that price and circle back around to reupholstering again.

So now I have $840 worth of foam, webbing etc. ordered (I already have fabric) and fingers crossed I don’t mess it up. Miss Meow should be happy with my decision anyway, as the set has an open wood frame which makes the space underneath a good napping spot.

Watch as many videos on YT about re-upholstering as you can

      and good luck

I suggest taking lots of photos while you deconstruct the old upholstery and wearing strong tradie gloves

This one’s fairly simple, it’s basically square cushions on top of a wood frame, for both the seat and back. There is no shaping or any fabric attached to the frame.

The only complication is that the seat base is done with tension springs attached to a metal frame that don’t seem to exist as replacement parts - I have found one supplier with something similar, but they don’t stock the right length. I’m going to use elastic webbing instead, which I’m at least familiar with using from previous projects, although I’ve not done anything larger than a dining chair.

I’m mostly a bit nervous about getting the piping on the cushions right. There was someone in the sewing sub on reddit that posted their project the other day which was almost identical, with links to a YT video they used and recommended so I will watch that one.

I’ve done sofa cushions. If making self piping make sure the piping cord is very loose so it doesn’t twist and so it bends easily, inside the tube, double stitch the corners with small stitches and cut the corners so they bend

are you making your own bias binding? Make the binding at least 5 cm wide

if buying sew in cord same goes, have it loose so it doesn’t twist or bend, double sew corners and snip the corners

Whilst I’d prefer to stay inside in air conditioned comfort I am going to take a load of stuff down to the op shop. Hopefully I can fit everything in one trip.

Edit: Done. It all fit in the car & has been dropped off. There was an annoying lady in a van blocking the drive through for a ridiculous amount of time and causing carpark gridlock and chaos everywhere, but otherwise it was not too traumatic. I even got rid of the blind that I sold on marketplace to four different people who never actually showed up.

So apparently my iron is low so I need to get on the supplements and also start eating a bit more medicinal red meat. I’m not a vegetarian any more but left to my own devices i can go a long time without (much) meat. So I have some stewing steak defrosting but I can’t decide between a chilli con carne or an old fashioned stew (both instant pot so it doesn’t heat up the place too much)…leaning towards the chilli…

    Anyone got any good recipes?

Please consider braised steak and onions. Beef, onions and beef stock. Thicken it up at the end of cooking. Garlic, herbs optional. Paired it with mashed potato and steamed veg.

Some peeps put sauce in there. I do not.

Kangaroo meatballs from (shudder!) colesworth. Very high in digestible iron. Don’t fry them! Brown lightly and stew with vegies. If you can get hold of horsemeat, that’s very high in iron too.
Also, once the weather gets a bit wetter/colder, look around for stinging nettles. The young tops are one of the highest sources of vegetable based iron. Wear rubber gloves to harvest, wash well and steam/microwave lightly until just wilted (which destroys the sting), chop, drain and use in any cooked spinach recipie. One of my fab faves as I love the nutty flavour. The iron content is a bonus. Easily grown in damp shade too.

For economical cuts velveting w/ bicarb really does wonders I’ve found, and can replace more expensive cuts easily without noticing.

Velveting is a great technique. Food court quality at home!!!

All kidding aside, cheap beef is elevated beyond belief with this.

For beef stew I put leek, carrots, celery, stock, bay leaf, pepper and mixed herbs, a can or 2 of tomatoes and let cook until beef is tender. Depending on which stock you use you may need to add some extra salt or not, just give it a taste and adjust as needed. Can eat it on its own with some crusty bread or have it over mash potatoes. Making a curry is also a good way to slow cook beef, eg a massaman, rogan josh. Use a jar paste if you want quick prep, or if you’re feeling gourmet you can make your own spice paste in a bigger batch and freeze.

I’m mostly a veggo, depending on circumstances. If I go out to eat I’ll always get the vegetarian option, but at home I generally have quite a lot of chicken or fish.

I also tend to have low iron though. The worst I got was when I gave blood, and then got my period the day after. I was so fucked up I had to buy some iron supplements lol. I take one now if I have a vegetarian meal and it helps. It’s crazy how a lack of iron can really fuck you up.

I’m always partial to chilli con carne - goes well with rice and cheese, and sour cream if you make it super spicy/hot. Can also have it on toast for brekky too!
