For this Friday Movie Night, first up is The Hourglass Sanatorium (1973), a Polish surreal fantasy about a man who goes to visit his dying father, only to find the hospital as a bizarre dreamscape that takes him through various vignettes of strange and oftentimes darkly-humorous situations, including a train ride with blind conductor, an encounter with people dressed as birds, and an exhibit of wax mannequins, among other things. This is considered arguably the magnum opus of Polish auteur Wojciech Has, who is otherwise best-known for the Napoleonic epic The Saragossa Manuscript (1965), which we have not yet watched.

After that is 28 Years Later (2025), the long-awaited sequel to 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007), both of which we watched last week. Director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland return, after having skipped the second installment; by most accounts, this has resulted in a return to form. A group of survivors of the zombie apocalypse now live in a fortified island off the coast of Britain, ruthlessly enforcing a quarantine by shooting anyone who violates it. Uh-oh someone decides to sneak off to the mainland anyway, and you can guess how well this will go. Good reviews for this, so let’s check it out.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Blorptube, right here:
